Who we are

Thread Between Us is run by THREAD BETWEEN US LIMITED, a Hong Kong company. We operate the Thread Between Us photo booth in Hong Kong and this website.

What we collect, and why

• Waitlist: your mobile number, whether you chose SMS or WhatsApp, and whether you asked for news. Used to message you once when the booth opens.
• Sign-up: adults only. We ask your age first, and if you are under 18 we stop there, before taking any of your details. Otherwise: your mobile number (checked by a one-time code), first and last name, age, gender, who you would like to meet, the age range you prefer, your sexuality if you choose to say, your questionnaire answers, and your signature agreeing to the ground rules. Used to match you with an earlier visitor.
• At the booth: photos. The camera takes five frames for each of three poses. Three are printed on your strip and all fifteen are stored. Used to print your strip and to make the private gallery behind the QR code on it.
• Automatically: a sign-in cookie, your IP address when you request a code (to limit abuse), and page statistics that do not identify you.

Giving us this is voluntary, but without it we cannot include you in the experience.

Your photo on someone else’s strip

Only if you tick “Include me in photo matching”. Your first name and three photos may then be printed on the strip of a later visitor we match you with, and this can happen for more than one visitor. You will not be told who they are, and a printed strip cannot be taken back. You can ask us to take you out of future matches at any time. If you do not opt in, nobody receives your photos and you receive no one’s.

Who receives your data

• A visitor you are matched with: your first name and photos, on paper, and nothing else.
• Our service providers, acting only on our instructions: Vercel (hosting and page statistics), Supabase (database and file storage) and Twilio (messages, including WhatsApp if you choose it). They may hold data outside Hong Kong.
• Authorities, where the law requires it.

Photos and signatures are kept in private storage. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it to train AI systems.

Marketing

We send news about future events to your mobile number only if you ticked the box asking for it. To stop, reply STOP or email us. Stopping is free.

How long we keep it

The gallery link on your strip stops working after 30 days. Until then, anyone holding your strip can open it. We keep your sign-up details, answers, photos and match records while the booth you visited is running, so that matching keeps working. Waitlist numbers are deleted once the opening message has been sent, unless you asked for news. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.

Your rights

Under Hong Kong’s Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance you can ask for a copy of your personal data, ask us to correct or delete it, and withdraw from photo matching. Write to the Data Protection Officer, THREAD BETWEEN US LIMITED, at contact@threadbetweenus.com. We respond within 40 days.
